Getting high traffic and high ctr seems like the holy grail of making money online. Three months after setting up this blog and I only have a little bit over $5 in Adsense earnings. I login every day to Google Analytics to see which posts are most read so I can focus on them. Google Analytics is a very good tool and one thing that I just recently listened from GA - traffic source.
My Google Analytics traffic source looks like this:
I signed up at Entrecard.com last January 1, 2009 and even without accepting ads. All 14 visits with 0% bounce rate. Bounce rate is the percentage of single-page visits (i.e. visits in which the person left your site from the entrance page). And I read from a blog (and forgot to copy the link) that Bounce rate will hurt Google rankings. Now that is a good source of free traffic for making money online. Several things I recently learned about EC:
- I personally discovered that I earn credits by dropping cards.
- Card dropping may or may not increase your bounce rate. It depends on who drops on you.
- Browse and card drop is the best thing to do.
- Card dropping increases traffic much faster than the first 2 days of just doing nothing except adding the card to my sidebar.
- Free traffic from Entrecard increases my Adgitize pageviews
Another free traffic source is Digg.com. I got 4 referrals from Digg despite signing up for the service last January 1, 2009. I know I can get even more referrals if I add friends in Digg and blog about interesting stuff and Digg them. One thing I noticed about the free traffic I got from Digg, they all bounce. It means the visitors just come and go - in a blink of an eye. I am hoping this will improve within the month otherwise, goodbye Digg.
Last but not the least is Technorati. What I did to get free traffic from this source is to add a Technorati tag at the end of my post. Of course, I chose the Technorati tag that has the highest number of articles linked to it.
There are lots of sources of free traffic but I will focus on these three for January with the aim of making money online. Feel free to comment if you have other sources of free traffic.

I feel your pain, I have been working on traffic and free is really tough. I tried Digg but was rejected for redirecting with a link.

@Grubbyrat: I am still observing the traffic that I am getting from Digg.com. Right now I am too busy to read resources on how others were successful with Digg. If I know of some, I will post an update and notify you.
